Ten Acres: A New Chapter for Seeway Trust

Ten Acres: A New Chapter for Seeway Trust

For 26 years, Seeway Trust has been working in Ghana to rescue and care for children who have been abandoned, orphaned, or sold into slavery. Today, we are stepping into the most significant chapter in our history.

In 2025, together with the Akwaaba Seeway Foundation, our local partner in Ghana led by Charity Afadua, we were able to purchase ten acres of land. It is our firm intention to build new accommodation, a school, and other essential facilities on this land, creating the capacity to rescue and care for many more children than we can reach today.

Why This Land Changes Everything

To date, we have rescued over 20 children from two forms of slavery in Ghana. On Lake Volta, an estimated 20,000 children are forced into hazardous fishing labour, sold by desperate families or trafficked by criminal networks. In the Volta region, the Trokosi system sees children born into shrine servitude. These children have now been rescued and are living safely at the Seeway Academy in Namanwora.

But the need far exceeds our current capacity. This land gives us the opportunity to respond to it.

What We Plan to Build

The ten acres will house purpose-built accommodation for rescued children, a school, and supporting facilities for the staff and volunteers who make the work possible. This is not a short-term project: it is the foundation for the next generation of Seeway Trust's work in Ghana, designed to care for many more children for decades to come.

An Invitation to Major Donors

This is the largest infrastructure project in Seeway Trust's 26-year history. We are looking for individuals and families who are in a position to make a significant gift towards the building work. Every major contribution brings us closer to the day when many more rescued children have a safe, permanent home.

If you would like to discuss giving a major gift towards this project, please get in touch. We would love to share the vision with you and talk through how your generosity can make the greatest possible impact.
